Throughout this semester, I have learned many different things in many different areas of life. Of course, living through and being a college student during a pandemic has its challenges and throws you a lot of curve balls. During this time I have had to be creative and I have had to be adaptable to the ever-changing world.
In my Multimedia Journalism course at Oakland University, I have learned an abundance of skills that will prepare me for my future career, side jobs and leisurely, as well. These skills include writing, editing, speech and communication, shooting/recording and editing video, audio, and photos, blogging, data analysis and interviewing. The course also helped me advance my technology and journalism skills too.
The topic my course focused on throughout the semester was health. I feel as though this topic is so important, especially now so more than ever. The topic of health was very open ended and included aspects such as physical, mental and emotion health topics. I was really excited to hear this was the topic for the semester because it was something that resonated close to home for me and that I felt passionate about educating myself and others on. Throughout the course I was able to share my personal experiences with health as well as interview others to share their powerful testimonies. It’s so important for us to learn about others who are different than us because it is what makes us special and unique. When we learn about others, we become more educated, but most importantly, we become more compassionate.
When reflecting back on my work throughout the semester, I can see huge improvements from my first blog post, which is where I responded to a health story about mental health, to my most recent blog post, where I shared a testimony about a caregiver who balances taking care of her own health as well.
As I read through my blog posts throughout the semester, I can see my growth and my comfort levels building as I learn and experiment more and more in class. My writing became more personal and impactful, as well as my technological skills navigating my blog. I feel comfortable and confident in my skills now.
My Multimedia Journalism course has helped me prepare for graduation and my upcoming career, but it also helped me learn more about myself and about those around me. I was able to not only dive deeper into myself and how I’m feeling, but also my community and those around me. This course helped me understand what’s really going on in my community and what things and truly important.
This course was truly impactful in many aspects of my life and I am grateful that I chose to enroll in this course and gain the knowledge, tools and skills I need to be successful in not only my career, but also in my own life.

Excellent summary. I Enjoyed watching you evolve and discover things about yourself. We never know all that we can do unless we stretch ourselves. Good job.
